White Swan Tavern
231 High Street
Chestertown, MD 21620

The White Swan Tavern has been a familiar landmark in Chestertown since pre-Revolutionary War days. Not far from the great Eastern cities of Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia, the White Swan Tavern is a quiet, elegant historic inn nestled in the history of Maryland's Chesapeake Bay region. The White Swan is for those who treasure serene streets, birdsong mornings, impeccable service, and the grace of New World Tradition. Today the tavern operates as a bed and breakfast, offering accommodations and afternoon tea, as well as amenities for small conferences, weddings, and receptions. Just as it was described in the 18th century, the White Swan remains "a comfortable... Public House... with every attention given to render comfort and pleasure to such as favor it with their patronage".

Welcome Visitors is a human-curated, invitation only presentation of select historic lodging accommodations, including bed & breakfasts, inns, hotels and lodges in the United States.

Historic lodging facilities (Stays) are demonstrably significant to world history with respect to their architecture, engineering, archeology or culture, as well as their location, design, materials, workmanship, feeling or association.

Historic bed & breakfasts, inns, hotels and lodges offer travelers a truly unique and memorable lodging experience.

They provide visitors a genuine opportunity to connect with the past, while enjoying restful lodging, excellent cuisine, gracious hospitality and more.

Sadly, countless historically significant structures have been (and continue to be) lost forever.

Many of those that endure, do so largely because of the vision, passion and dedication of devoted and enterprising proprietors, companies and others, who (usually after great effort and expense) offer them as living, interactive lodging facilities reflecting the rich historical fabric within which they are woven.
